Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat called Wednesday’s final testing 'crucial' as he continues to get used to the car after being dropped by Red Bull.
The Russian was delighted with the way the car drove on Wednesday and added that he needed to get familiarised with his new car ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Doing 116 laps on Wednesday in the SRT, the 23-year-old had to have his second session cut short after his engine failed 45-minutes before the chequered flag was waved.
"It was quite crucial," Kvyat said. "Obviously the more laps I can get in this new car the more laps I can get familiar with it.
"Obviously I got more familiarisation, I did some things to suit my driving style a bit better, so I think it was a good combination all together. Very important.
"Obviously here and Monaco are very different tracks, but let's see, it will be a perfect opportunity because Monaco is a confidence track so will be importance to see how much confidence I have in the car.
When quizzed about the engine failure, Kvyat admitted that he doesn’t know what exactly transpired but revealed the team decided to play it safe just in case.
"I don't know, the team is still trying to work out exactly what happened," he added. "Something inside on the back part, we don't know exactly what happened. We'll know tomorrow.
"I think it was precaution. We just lost a bit of power so we said its better to stop and investigated rather than trying to push it, so we decided it was best to do it that way."
